all the etiquette rules I see for the 21st century are hopelessly out of touch and not justified so im making a list of etiquette rules. in no particular order. feel free to add to this list or contest if you'd like:) 1. if you ask someone out, don't ask for their number, give them yours 2. if someone is working at their job and their position is not an actor or performer of some kind, don't watch them do their job if possible 3. if you break plans with someone, initiate specific plans in the future if you can 4. decisiveness can be a form of kindness 5. when leaving public reviews and some aspect of the thing is outside the provider's control (rating a restaurant low because it's loud, rating a book low because you don't like the genre, etc) keep that shit to yourself 6. when writing a review of a book, never tag the author 7. don't leave negative reviews of businesses if you didn't ask them to fix your issue directly (outside of scams obv) 8. don't complain to an employee about something out of their control 9. don't rope someone's boss into a situation unless you've already tried and failed to solve it on the employee's level 10. be open to being impressed and express it often 11. if you're apologizing, the end of the apology should include the wronged party's perspective, communicated or presumed 12. chosen food restrictions are your own responsibility, but you can make allergies and religious restrictions everyone else's (to a degree) 13. accommodate everyone else's food restrictions, chosen or not, as much as you possibly can 14. don't treat your dog or toddler the way you wish you had been treated as a teen
